President Mark Weeks called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm with 16 members present.

President, Mark Weeks Introduced the Officers---

  • Mark Weeks- Presiden
  • Vince Bell- Vice President
  • Chet Blake – Secretary
  • Ron Swift - Treasurer
  • Don Bailey – Safety Officer

3 guests were present Bud Craft, Orin Humphries and Gerry Godsbey (most likely misspelled so Chet’s apologies). Suggestion going forward, have guests sign in. These gentlemen visited to show interest in Control Line field use.

Additions or Corrections to the minutes – Chet had incorrectly stated in the minutes that there was a 90 day wait period for the proposed ‘Reactivation fee of $25’ added on to the regular dues for tardy membership payments. This was caught early on and corrected by Ron Swift, Newsletter Editor.

Officers Reports

Vice President – Vince reported that the Floats n Boats was postponed on 6/9 due to bad weather and rescheduled for Sat 6/16 10:00am at Lake Hughes.

Treasurer - Club Funds in good shape, funds are available for projects.

Secretary – We currently we have 40 members.

Safety – Don stated that all is well. No news Is Good news!

Field Manager – Jay couldn’t be there but Assist. Field Manager Bryan Reightley mentioned that the mower was throwing the belt off and a new one was purchased. It will be ready for the weekly cutting by Wednesday afternoon. Also, He and Jay went to the Lake Hughes dock area and weed whacked for a bit and everything looked ok. Just as an FYI, there is another dock the Scouts had built just south of the one we use. The second car port was erected on the north end of the field. It comes in handy as a sun shade while doing FPV with phone or tablet apps like the DJI Go or Go4 programs,

News Letter Editor - Hard copies available and your input is needed. Please send Club interest and event pics to Ron Swift and Ron Rueter

Web Master – Always looking for input, pics and Club news.

OLD BUSINESS –

We need to organize a work party for the BBQ cover.

The AMA announced that on May 8 the House of Representatives passed the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. In short this means that they have included Section 336 known as the Special Rule for Model Aircraft. The AMA thanked each and every person that wrote in to their Reps and supported their Call to Action.

There has been some discussion as to where to put the second awning. Mark proposed putting it on the north end as to accommodate flyers there instead of making everyone walk to the south one. Joint agreement was made to put it on the north end. If for some reason it didn’t work out, it will simply be moved.

Our New Member Rich Primo said he has a new car port awning that he no longer needs and will donate to the Club. Thanks Rich !!

Vince presented the Builders Contest rules. They will be emailed to everyone and the Web Master.

Ron and Don discussed Control Line areas. Don refinished and covered CL plane that Mr. Fredericks had donated and Ron installed an engine and tank, ready for the test flight. It might even happen this Saturday (5/12) @ 10:00.

Dart has been able to get some dirt for the car/truck track and we’ll need to spread it. He is looking for more dirt to build a gnarly track  :- )

Discussion came up about late dues since we have dropped the Initiation fee which offered a penalty if not paid on time. A motion was made to make a change in the by-laws calling for a $25 Reactivation Fee. This will be on the minutes and table for 90 days for members to read and evaluate, then vote on at the meeting of the expiration of the 90 days. If approved the verbiage will be…”A $25 Reactivation fee will be charged if dues are not paid for by the end of business at the March meeting. This $25 fee will be added to the yearly dues and paid in full at the time of the delinquent dues payment. This will be voted on at the July 10th meeting.

NEW BUSINESS -

Many hanks to Rich Primo for the donation of the car port. It was erected Sat June 2nd and serves well as a sun shade for FPV with a smart phone or tablet screen, general shade and member camaraderie and kibitzing. Thanks to Bryan, Vince, Vaughan, Dart, Mark, Tim and Dave for setting it up.

The FCC has taken notice of our amazing hobby and proposed a near $3mil penalty to HobbyKing for selling FPV and receivers in the US that are not compliant to the FCC regulations and could operate on or interfere with Public Safety and Emergency channels. For more info go to…

Mark proposed we go forward on purchasing a shed as the barn is getting worse and worse, day by day. The idea is not to buy it this month but get the membership agreement to buy a shed as soon as we are ready. We missed a really good deal at Costco because we weren’t ready to go or have approval.

The Control line area was weed whacked by Mark. Mark had 3 pics that he passed around that showed the Control Line area, Car/Truck race track area and the overall of the Runway, Barn, Race track and Control Line area. After discussion it was determined that the control line area needs to be 140 ft. diameter. Mark will check it out. It will have to move west and that area is very wet so we need dirt. Dart mentioned that dirt is skyrocketing due to construction of a dike on the Snohomish river and the contractor is buying up anything that resembles dirt. We need to get a handle on this very soon.

There was a Motion, 2nd and approval for the Control Line aficionados to pursue the possibility of expanding the Control Line area with required fill, finish and grass while considering a max budget of $2000 and report back the findings and costs.

Orin and Jerry showed off their Control Line planes and a history of each. Beautiful models and workmanship.
